Behind the Scenes of a Studio Setup in Dallas

Video always takes the center stage when you think of video production. Good video, audio and logos all shine in the end result. What goes on before that is something we know about here at our Dallas TX video production studio. Setup can play a huge role when you're trying to accomplish everything you need to in the allotted amount of time. Especially in the fall season.

As November approaches the days become shorter and weather becomes less predictable. The flow of cars decreases and hours at work increase. Having your set ready and efficient will allow your shoot to take place at the time you need it and ensure you get the message across. Running to Target to buy extra equipment or increasing the daylight hours isn't an option so here is what a day at the studio can look like when preparing to film.

Getting the Space Ready

Floor space is something to clear when preparing your set. Make sure there is nothing on the ground that can affect your cables or equipment. Having your mind on your set will allow you to think more efficiently. Your entire studio should be free of any objects when setting up to film.

Once your studio is clear of any items you will want to place your camera positions. By placing them ahead of time you can have a better understanding of where your tripods will go and if you need any movement. Depending on your shoot you may want to use back drops. You can test different back drops for your desired look. If you're doing a simple interview you may not need much. But if you're filming a product you may want some foreground and overhead lighting.

Lighting can also become an issue during this time of the year here in Dallas. Because daylight saving time ends you can experience more changes in light. Having your studio prepared for this will save you time when setting up.

Kinter Media has many different options when it comes to setting up your studio to fit your needs. We offer multiple camera setups and interview rooms. With back drops to suit your brand.

Crew Arrivals and Equipment Checks

Shoot days can start as early as 9 AM. However the crew will be there much earlier. Each member has their own arrival time depending on their position. But they all follow a set pattern of getting things set up. When the doors open it's go go go. Equipment is unloaded from vehicles. Cords are taken out of their wrapping and carts are positioned.

All equipment is inspected when unloaded. We want to make sure everything works properly. Cameras will be checked on the frame line and proper exposure. Microphones are walked around the area to see if any frequencies may be an issue. Lights are positioned and turned on to check if any are making a buzzing sound.

In Dallas you may also want to check with your production assistants if there is heavy traffic or weather changes. There could be a cold front that moves in and cause delays to your shoots. Maybe construction slowed down on a road near you. You have to be able to move quick and know what you have. So when checking your equipment you also want to know the flow of your shoot.

With Kinter Media we use broadcast quality cameras and lights. Allowing us to achieve our desired look no matter what the weather is doing outside.

Lighting, Sound, and Scene Prep

Now that we have our equipment set up and powered. We can begin creating our look. Lighting is key when creating your video. We have many different types of lights we use. Depending on the project. If it's a video of a leader announcing something we may go with softer lights. Or if we are filming a promo and showing off products we may want harder lights with less spread.

Lights will be moved and positioned to fit each scene. Making sure you are getting the desired look and highlights bounce off certain areas. We take into account wall colors and subject's skin tones. Even what time of year it is can play a factor. In Dallas the air is drier in November which can change the look of some lights.

As mentioned earlier sound is also prepared. Engineers will ensure that there is no residual echo and microphones can pick up audio from desired distances. Foam panels and floor mutes may be placed but most likely your audience will not see these items. Again we want to achieve that perfect crisp tone with no booms or drop outs. Studios in Dallas can get noisy as well depending on what is going on around them.

Getting Talent and Direction in Sync

Once your set is set we can begin introducing our talent. Whether you're on camera talent or professional speaker we like to introduce them to what the day will look like. We give simple directions that allow our talent to learn the ins and outs of their video. Where to stand, where to place hands and when to take a breath to start again. These tips will help them feel more comfortable when it's time to roll.

We will run lines with our talent before shooting begins. This allows us to time our pace and location. It also helps our crew know what is going to happen so if anything does go off script they can intervene. We always leave time for last minute adjustments to our scripts. Whether that's adding or subtracting words or facts to a line we can accommodate.

You will never see this in your final video but there are a lot of things that go on between clips. Straightening a shirt cuff or checking the mic pack. Maybe your producer has some notes they would like you to know about. All of these steps help your day go smoothly and allow for more breathing room when needed. There is never enough time at the end of the year to slow down.

Bringing It All Together for a Smooth Shoot

All these pieces play a role in allowing your day to be successful. If your video production studio in Dallas TX knows how to utilize their time they will provide a space for things to go well. Which is why you should hire one that understands this concept.

At the end of the year there may not be enough time to do things twice. You want to make sure that you are hitting your goals and keeping on time. Having a video studio that will help accomplish these tasks can be very beneficial. No matter what happens outside your walls the studio will remain consistent. That is what will help produce quality video content.

Are you trying to schedule a shoot? Here's a few things to consider when working with a video production studio in Dallas, TX. Here at Kinter Media we make sure that everything runs smooth. We know the little details when you're short on time or have last minute changes.
